Course information
In osteoarthritis (OA), the words clinicians choose can significantly influence how people perceive their condition, their confidence to self-manage, and their engagement with care.
This course explores why clear, accurate, and consistent language matters when communicating a diagnosis of osteoarthritis. Too often, terms like “wear and tear” or “just a touch of arthritis” can minimise the condition, create confusion, or leave people without the knowledge they need to manage their health effectively.
Through this session, healthcare professionals will gain insight into the impact of language on patient experience and outcomes, and develop practical strategies for delivering clear diagnoses and meaningful explanations. By improving how we talk about osteoarthritis, we can empower people with the understanding and confidence they need to take an active role in their care.
Learners receive a digital course handbook, course slides, a certificate of completion, and 7 CPD points. The course is BSR endorsed.
