Course information

This full-day course strengthens confidence and capability in conducting effective musculoskeletal consultations in primary care. It equips health and care professionals with practical, decluttered approaches to assessment, diagnosis, and communication across common MSK presentations.

Musculoskeletal symptoms such as knee pain, shoulder problems, sciatica, back pain, and other lower and upper limb presentations can be challenging to assess in busy primary care settings, particularly when uncertainty is high.

This course provides a holistic, structured approach to MSK consultation that supports clearer decision-making and improved patient experience. Designed for anyone who undertakes MSK consultations in primary care, it focuses on building practical skills and applying them directly to real-world conditions and presentations.

The course is delivered in person over seven hours and centres around three interactive workshops covering:

  1. Low Back Pain and Sciatica;
  2. Lower Limb (with a focus on the knee); and
  3. Upper Limb (with a focus on the shoulder).

These hands-on sessions are supported by additional short teaching components throughout the day, including introductions to key MSK conditions and relevant primary care considerations.

Learners will have opportunities to practise explanations and examination techniques, engage in discussion, and ask questions to experienced trainers. Lunch and refreshments are provided.

Learners receive a digital course handbook, course slides, a certificate of completion, and 7 CPD points. The course is BSR endorsed.
