A TikTok challenge created from arthritis physio moves

Arthritis isn’t just grandad’s problem. But this myth leaves many young people with arthritis feeling ashamed and invisible. We created a movement to change that: The Arthur Tut.

Inspired by the TikTok trend of finger tutting and the physiotherapy we do every week, The Arthur Tut is our way of helping change how the world sees our condition.

We get it - some days moving can be tough. So we're not expecting perfection, but we’d love it if you had a go and shared it on TikTok. The moves might even help you feel better! Don’t forget to use #ArthurTut and tag @ArthritisUK

Behind the moves

The Arthur Tut features moves that help manage arthritis by encouraging a full range of motion and a healthy dose of attitude.

Wrist rotations

Turn your palms up, then back down onto a table, keeping your elbows and shoulders still. This helps ease stiffness and improve everyday movement like turning door keys.

Finger extensions

Bend your finger joints to touch your palm, then straighten again. Keep your wrist straight. This helps increase finger flexibility and build hand strength.

Small joint flexion

Hold the base of a finger to stabilise it, then bend the middle joint against resistance. This helps strengthen and stabilise individual fingers and gripping small objects.

360 degree rotation

With your wrists together, slowly circle your hands in both directions through as close to  360 as you can. This move helps ease stiffness and improve hand and wrist mobility.

Hand flow

With forearms horizontal and fingers touching elbows, flex one hand downwards and extend the other up to create a box shape and repeat. This helps improve wrist flexibility and strength.
